Academician Fu Tingdong delivering a speech
From December 6th to 8th, the 2nd Wuhan South Lake Doctoral Forum on Crop Science and Plant Protection was held in HZAU. More than 20 PhD students from ten universities, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, and Nankai University, attended the forum. Academician Fu Tingdong was invited to make a keynote speech entitled Crop Quality Improvement.
Li Bin, Executive Vice Dean of Graduate School, said at the opening ceremony:“A university is not an academic institution in the general sense, but an institution where profound knowledge comes into play. It serves as a guide to human knowledge production, and scientific and technological innovation. Academic research can reflect the university's pursuit of truth, the guidance of morality and the yearning for a better life. It is because of its academic spirit and scientific spirit that a university can be trusted by the society.”He also hoped that our students would strive for scientific truth and shoulder the historical responsibility of strengthening and rejuvenating agriculture in the new era.
Fu Tingdong, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, shared his experience in his report entitled Crop Quality Improvement. He emphasized the importance of basic research, thus encouraging our students to find and solve problems in practice. Presenting Small RNAs and Cross-Kingdom RNAi in plant-microbial Interaction as the topic, Cai Qiang, Young Professor of Wuhan University, introduced the analysis of the regulatory mechanism of Small RNAs in the interaction between plants and pathogens by means of genetics, molecular biology and biochemistry.
There were two parallel sessions：Crop Science and Plant Protection. Each session consisted of 12 presentations of PhD students. Their reports triggered discussions among the judges and students. And related posters were on display in the square of the third comprehensive building.
