HZAU’s Observation and Research Station Identified as the Field Science Observation and Research Station

On August 31, 2019, the first Field Science Observation and Research Station of the Education Ministry in our school was officially recognized. According to the list issued by the Ministry of Education in 2019, the Field Science Observation and Research Station for Agricultural Environment Monitoring and Protection in the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River in Hubei Province has been identified as the Field Science Observation and Research Station of the Ministry of Education. It is the first Field Science Observation and Research Station of the Education Ministry in our school with official recognition. There are 52 research stations from 37 universities across the country enrolled in the list.
The station is a significantly fundamental platform for field observations, scientific experiments, practical teaching and technology demonstration. On July 18, 2019, the Ministry of Education launched the field station selection, in order to promote the establishment of national field science observation and research stations in colleges and universities, strengthen the field observation research capacity and accumulation of scientific data in colleges and universities, and improve the practice level of the researchers in related fields.
Based on the College of Resources and Environment of HZAU, the station was initially established in 1990 as the ‘Comprehensive Brown and Red Soil Experimental Station of HZAU’. In recent years, it has provided a lot of basic and professional observation data for scientific research, and offered professional services in many research tasks. Therefore, researchers have published more than 100 papers in the international mainstream journals in the fields of environment, ecology and agriculture such as Environ Sci Technol, Water Resour Res, J Hydrol, Soil Sci Soc Am J, Soil Biol Biochem, obtained more than 20 invention patents and won 6 provincial and ministerial awards. In the past five years, more than 40 research projects have been undertaken, and related investment funds have exceeded 160 million yuan.
It is reported that the College of Resources and Environment has continued to strengthen the construction of field stations. Thanks for its efforts, it now has relatively perfect experimental sites and infrastructure, with a high-level of scientific research, technical support and management team. In accordance with China’s major development strategies and ‘Double-First Class’ Initiative, the college will make use of these advantages to strongly support the development of relevant disciplines and the cultivation of high-level talents.
