The 1st National Crop Science High-End Forum in HZAU

From June 3 to 5, HZAU witnessed the 1st National Crop Science High-End Forum - Green Crop and Sustainable Agriculture, which was jointly held by College of Plant Science &Technology and National Key Laboratory of Crop Genetic Improvement.
As a high-end academic event since the 120th Anniversary of HZAU, the forum invited 35 famous and young scholars in the field of crop science at home and abroad to give reports. In addition, the forum also attracted some editors from prestigious journals, including Molecular Plant, Nature Communications, Nature Plants, Genome Biology and Plant Biotechnology Journal, who had in-depth exchanges with present scientific researchers. Attended by more than 300 official representatives from over 40 domestic scientific research institutes, the forward-looking forum has a wide coverage of topics, ranging from basic theoretical research on crop science and plant conservation to the applied research based on new technologies, methods and concepts.
At the beginning, on behalf of HZAU, President Li Zhaohu gave the opening speech and welcomed scholars present from all over the world. He stressed the importance of the reciprocal relationship between green crops and sustainable agriculture, especially the crucial role of green crops in the development of a region and a country. Li pointed out that HZAU held the forum in an effort to improve international academic exchanges in crop science, promote international cooperation in talents training and scientific research, and provide new ideas and methods for the sustainable development of global agriculture. He wished the forum a success with the note: “better crop , better future.”
On the forum, Prof. Jacqueline Batley from the University of Western Australia, Prof. Beat Keller from the university of Zurich and Prof. Wei Taiyun from Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University gave reports on the progress made in crop disease-resistance. Dr. Bill Gordon-Kamm from Corteva Agriscience™, Prof. Bing Yang from Donald Danforth Plant Science Center and Researcher Xia Lanqin from Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences shared recent research in crop biotechnology, especially gene editing technology applied in crop improvement. Prof. David Jackson from The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Prof. Gary Muehlbauer from University of Minnesota Twin Cities (UMN), and Researcher  Jiao Yuling from Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology (IGDB), Chinese Academy of Sciences presented significant advancement related to crop development. Prof. Chen Lingling from HZAU, Prof. Nathan Springer from UMN, Prof. Alisdair Fernie from Max Planck Institute and Researcher Bai Yang from IGDB shared latest developments on Omics Technology implemented in crop research, including genome, metabolome and microbiome.
More than 600 teachers and students of HZAU attended the forum. Such as Peng Yan, a postgraduate student from College of Plant Science & Technology, after the report he said that :"the high-end forum at school allowed me to learn about the frontier knowledge of the discipline and expand my international horizon, and it also provided a chance to exchange ideas with world-renowned scholars, which benefited me a lot."
