Hubei Crop Society (HCS) is an academic group established with the approval of Social Organization Administration Bureau of Hubei Civil Affairs Department and Hubei Association for Science & Technology(HAST). Its initiative session of first members’ congress was held at HZAU on the morning of April 29th. The attendees included Fu Tingdong, member of CAE, Yao Jianglin, vice president of HZAU, leaders from Hubei Province Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (HPDARA) and more than 150 members from Wuhan University, Hubei University and municipal academies of agricultural science. Leaders from the Crop Society of China (CSC) and HAST were also present. Guan Huanda, executive vice dean of HZAU Institute of Science and Technology Development, presided over the session.
Yao Jianglin reviewed the preparation for the establishment of the HCS and expects the society, as an academic community, to be a platform for academic exchanges, innovation and popularization in crop science, making great contributions to grain, food and environmental safety, precision poverty alleviation and rural revitalization in Hubei. He said that HCS is the strategic think tank for agricultural development and will inevitably drive the agricultural and economic growth in Hubei.
Yu Jun, vice president of HAST, Xiao Changxi, chief agronomist of HPDARA , and Yang Keli, deputy secretary general of CSC, extended their congratulations on the establishment of HCS, which is of remarkable significance to the green, efficient and sustainable development of agriculture in Hubei. They expected that with the help of HCS, experts could give full play to their talent in crop science and become the main driving force for rural revitalization, rural talents cultivation and collective results demonstration, and thus boosting Hubei’s agricultural growth with its own advantages and distinctive features, accelerating Hubei’s transition from a big agricultural province to a strong one, and propelling the green development of Hubei province and the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Professor Peng Shaobing, on behalf of HCS initiators, reported HCS’s preparatory work. Then Professor Huang Jianliang introduced the draft of HCS rules and regulations to be deliberated and voted subsequently. After a secret ballot, leaders of HCS council were selected. Fu Tingdong, member of CAE, becomes the honorary president, Peng Shaobing the first president and Professor Huang Jianliang the Party branch secretary. The first council meeting and the first Party branch meeting of HCS were held later on, t. Du Meiyi, division chief of HAST, observed the whole process of HCS’s inaugural meeting, inspected the registration and operation, and gave guidance for its management.
After the inaugural meeting, Professor Zhang Xianlong, Professor Peng Shaobing, Shi Jiaqin, doctor of Oil Crops Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science and You Aiqing, vice president of Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences made academic reports respectively.
