An HZAU delegation of over 60 students, composed of entrepreneurial student representatives and those who have taken basic entrepreneurial courses, visited Wuhan Air-conditioning Factory of Midea Group, Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Center and South Taizi Lake Innovation Valley in Wuhan Economic &Technological Development Zone on the afternoon of March 7. This activity is part of 2019 “Entrepreneurship Camp” and “Professional Express to Famous Enterprises”.

While visiting Wuhan Air-conditioning Factory of Midea Group, students learned that Midea’s rapid development over the past 51 year owes much to its strong ethos in “putting people first, controlling manufacturing process strictly, seeking excellence in technology, and offering best service for customers” and to its integration of information, automation, precision and flexibility into its management. When seeing high-tech products such as air conditioners for kids and the latest product of “space station air conditioner,” Zhao Jialu, a sophomore student majoring in animal science, said, “an enterprise, mastering the core competitiveness, namely, technological innovation and core technology, could have constant progress and development. For college entrepreneurs, the first thing is to grasp the core technology, which is also the core competitiveness, and then they can strive on this basis for excellence and innovation.

In the Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Center and the South Taizi Lake Innovation Valley, the head of the enterprise showed the students around the exhibition hall and had discussions with them. The South Taizi Lake Innovation Valley displayed the core intelligent technology unfolding a bright future for Wuhan. And the intelligent manufacturing industrial park featured 3 platforms: the platform for the industrial application of science and technology, the platform for displaying and exchanging regional new products and technologies, and the platform for focusing and docking regional resources of innovation and entrepreneurship. All of these have enchanted the students with the great charms of scientific and technological innovation in industrial development. Yang Baoshuo, from the College of Engineering, expressed, “Innovation creates the future, and entrepreneurship drives employment. During the visit, we learned many things from the operation principle and management concept to the production lines and manufacturing steps in workshops. It would be of great benefit if we can apply what we saw, heard, and felt to our study and career planning in the future. ”

This activity was the kick-off of 2019 “Entrepreneurship Camp” for college students. Every year, the university organizes more than 20 activities such as walking into enterprises, start-up and innovation incubators, and 2 or 3 sessions of entrepreneurial training camp. All is aimed to help students to gain more working experience, learn how to manage a start-up business, and have a better understanding of the current situation and policies for employment and entrepreneurship so that they can have a better career planning.
