On the afternoon of February 15, a symposium on student international communication was held in the conference room on the second floor of the administrative building, intending to promote student international communication and Chinese-foreign cooperative programs in education. Participants included Vice President Qingping, and directors from Graduate School, International Office, International College, as well as relevant colleges. The symposium was chaired by Hu Chengxiao, Director of International Office and Dean of International College.
Suggestions of six aspects were proposed after participants exchanged their experience in the joint education, students exchange, international scientific research cooperation and international exchange of teachers. Firstly, we should strengthen the combined approach of “inviting in” and “sending out”, and actively introduce high-quality foreign educational resources. Secondly, we should make full use of national and university resources and encourage students to apply for China Scholarship Council (CSC) programs. Thirdly, we should implement substantial cooperation and exchanges based on joint scientific research projects. Fourthly, we should establish a performance incentives mechanism to give full play to tutors’ initiative. Fifthly, we should organize more high-level international academic conferences to broaden students’ international horizons. Sixthly, it is also imperative to build a staff team responsible for international cooperation and exchanges in colleges.
Hu Chengxiao pointed out that, to deepen international cooperation and exchanges, we should initiate a professional team and raise funds from various sources to establish a guarantee mechanism. We should also optimize the talents international cooperation and training system, and explore more cooperative channels to build an international cooperation network.
Qingping thoroughly analyzed the demerits of international exchange and cooperation in our university, and put forward the requirements for the year 2019. First, we should issue the students’ quota to colleges properly to implement management by objective. Second, we should establish assessment system which is bidirectional at both university and college levels. Third, we should raise funds in various ways, apply for CSC programs actively, and fund should be given to colleges. Fourth, we should establish a system linking graduate supervisors’ enrollment quota with students’ international exchange to promote supervisors’ initiative, so that more students can be encouraged to study abroad. Fifth, we should formulate regulations to assess students who are studying abroad.
