Recently, the first postgraduate experimental SPOC (Small Private Online Course) of HZAU Aquatic Science Experimental Technology and Methods was launched on the "MOOC of Chinese Universities" website run by iCourse since the construction of HZAU postgraduate courses.
This course was predominantly conducted by Prof. Li Dapeng, doctoral supervisor of College of Fisheries. It took nearly 2 years to complete the project with the joint effort of the course team, which was composed of scientists of National technology system for conventional freshwater fish industries, talents of Thousand Talent Program for Young Outstanding Scientists of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC and Doctoral supervisors, master supervisors and researchers who are well-experienced in postgraduate education and aquatic research.
Aquatic Science Experimental Technology and Methods SPOC is an experimental course for postgraduate students majoring in aquatic science with the teaching concepts of truth pursuing, science exploring and perfection seeking. At the preliminary phase, the course content is determined on the basis of the investigation on the experimental requirements of more than 400 postgraduates of aquatic science. The course collects experimental techniques and methods in aquatic research including fish physiology and biochemistry, water environmental chemistry, aquatic molecular biology, aquatic animal nutrition analysis and fish biology. This course breaks through the limitation of traditional experimental courses in terms of space and time, and decomposes large and long classes into individual experimental technology modules. By presenting the whole process of operation of experimental techniques and methods vividly in the form of video, the teachers can transform the traditional experimental class into a smart micro-class with short class hours.
The launch of this course enables students to reasonably arrange their study time according to their daily scientific research work. The study place has changed from a single form of the laboratory into many different forms,such as the study room, dormitory, library or any other places that students like, and the experimental operation steps have been more vividly and clearly displayed in front of students. Through the circle mode of "online simulation learning + offline practical operation", it gives students more accurate and in-depth learning experience and facilitates them to select the learning content according to their thesis topics.
SPOC of Aquatic Science Experimental Technology and Methods is also the first online open experimental course in the field of agriculture nationwide, forestry and fisheries for postgraduate students to appear on the MOOC platform. The development of this course can not only stimulate the enthusiasm of postgraduate students for active learning, improve their ability of scientific and technological innovation, but also accelerate the pace of teaching reform of such courses. In the future, there will be more courses like that on the MOOC platform, which will promote the overall improvements of the teaching quality of postgraduates in our university.
