On November 12, a session on policies of international affairs was held in the conference room of the administration building in HZAU. Attendees included Vice President Qing Ping, relevant heads and secretaries from Graduate School, International Office, International College, and other colleges. The conference was chaired by Hu Chengxiao, Director of International Office and Dean of International College.
In Qing Ping’s speech, he reviewed the past achievements on the international cooperation and exchanges in recent years. This conference is organized to deal with the problems collected in the feedback of previous investigation on colleges in an effort to make HZAU a world-class university. He emphasized that, every college should learn the policies on international affairs, and every teacher should be familiar with those policies, and act in accordance to the rules and regulations.
When talking about the future work of international cooperation and exchange, Qing Ping pointed out three focuses: encouraging more students go abroad, inviting more well-known professors to our campus, and improving the management mechanism of foreign affairs. Based on previous international cooperation, our university has made breakthroughs in the following aspects: the number of student going abroad is increasing; the quality of experts invited from abroad and the practical cooperation has improved significantly; work procedure has been optimized; the communication platform has been established between functional departments and colleges; the mechanism of foreign affairs management has been enhanced. In his speech, Qing Ping repeatedly emphasized the importance of international cooperation and exchanges for the university’s overall development, as well as for discipline construction in colleges.
Cui Mimi and Hu Wen introduced detailed policies on specific issues: inviting foreign experts in, sending teachers and students out and training international students, etc. Hu Chengxiao made a report entitled “Internationalization of Higher Education: Strategy and Practice”. The report started with two basic judgments: the entry of China’s higher education into a new era and the transition of international cooperation and exchange at present. Hu analysed the new situations in the internationalization of higher education and shared some thoughts and suggestions for development. Based on the reality of our university, Hu insisted that the requirements for international cooperation and exchange should be borne in mind, and we should practice on the ideas of “consolidating basic skills, broadening horizon, and promoting internationalization”. We should strive to work on “the six aspects of perseverance”: we should stick to the guide of policy, and strengthen top-level design; we should persist in global cooperation; we should stick to high-end and high-standard discipline construction; we should encourage more students to go abroad; we should take the initiative to promote the educational exchange between Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR Taiwan China and Mainland China. These six aspects of perseverance will help realize our university’s internalization in terms of enhancing our students’ quality, teachers’ reputation, disciplines’ status and university’s influence.
