Recently, Ms. Guo Zaiping, professor of Materials Engineering Department of University of Wollongong, Australia, distinguished professor of “Chutian Scholar”, guested at the academic forum held by College of Science and delivered a report as a part of 120th anniversary celebration activities of HZAU. The report was entitled Advanced Electrode Materials for Alkali Ion Batteries. Prof. Chen Hao, Dean of the College of Science, and Prof. Zheng Xinsheng along with many other teachers and postgraduates attended the report.
Prof. Guo first introduced the development of energy storage equipment. She then reiterated the importance of studying secondary batteries and elaborated on advantages and disadvantages of capacitors, super capacitors, secondary batteries and fuel cells, as well as the prospects and challenges in practical application. After that, Prof. Guo introduced the method of screening battery electrode materials by comparing the crustal abundance, ionic radius, relative molecular weight, and standard electrode potential of metal lithium, sodium and potassium. She said that the key to develop high-energy-density secondary batteries lies in high capacity, low voltage anode material.
Finally, Prof. Guo talked about the research group's achievements on lithium battery, sodium battery and potassium battery. She took silicon-based and tin-based materials as examples to illustrate issues in the design, preparation, assembly, and structure-property relation of alkali metal anode materials with experimental data and pictures. She also proposed some solutions to the problem of stability in thermodynamics, kinetics and surface/interface of nano-energy materials.
After the report, Prof. Guo shared her experience of scientific research and inspired the students and scholars to promote themselves and to dedicate themselves to scientific research and education. In addition, she answered the questions from teachers and students about article submission
