From March 19 to 23, a delegation of Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) headed by Vice president Prof. Li Chongguang and Vice president Prof. Wu Ping went to Pakistan for the Second Sino-Pakistan Agricultural Forum and visited seven higher education institutes, among which University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) and Bahauddin Zakariya University signed memorandums with HZAU for cooperation, and all heads of institutes concerned were sincerely invited to attend HZAU 120th anniversary.

During the visit, the delegation attended the Second Sino-Pakistan Agricultural Forum held in Government College University, Faisalabad, where Vice president Wu Ping delivered the opening remarks. Wu Ping said that an important development strategy of HZAU is to expand the circle of international friends and promote the internationalization of education. Pakistan is a focal area and important cooperation partner for advancing the Belt and Road Initiative. Based on the solid foundation for further collaboration between HZAU and Pakistani higher education institutes she expected that both sides will achieve fruitful results in co-cultivating top-notch talent and coping with major challenges in fields of agriculture, food security, resources and environment. Experts of the delegation made presentations in the sub-forums respectively and then participated in Faisalabad Food Expo.
The delegation also met with Dr. Safdar Ali Shah, the head of Higher Education Commission, Pakistan, Prof. Sarwat Naz Mirza, Vice Chancellor of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) Prof. Muhammad Iqbal Zafar, Vice Chancellor of UAF and other deans, directors and professors successively for exchange of students, faculty members and scientific research cooperation.
When visiting National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) and Ayub Agriculture Research Institute Faisalabad, the delegation met some Pakistani alumni who have studied in HZAU as Ph. D and master students. Prof. Ye Zhibiao and other four experts also attended the Sino-Pakistan International Horticultural Conference held in Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture.
HZAU and AFU signing memorandum for cooperation
Pakistan, the seventh largest agricultural country in the world has been enjoying excellent bilateral ties with China based on brotherhood and neighborhood. China and Pakistan have forged an all-weather strategic cooperative partnership and the relationship between two peoples can be poetically hailed as a friendship “higher than the mountain, deeper than the sea and sweeter than honey.” Besides, the cooperation between the two countries in agriculture, education and other fields is full of potentials. Last December, the First Sino-Pakistan Agricultural Forum was held in HZAU, where NIBGE and other three Pakistani universities had signed memorandums for cooperation with HZAU, and a regular liaison mechanism had been established. The visit to Pakistan ended with great success that the understanding and the cooperation between HZAU and Pakistani higher education institutes come to a higher level.
