Prof. Zhao Chunjiang Talks on Intelligent Agriculture in HZAU

On the morning of Mar 18th, the 14th high-level forum for crop science organized by the College of Plant Sciences and Technology was held in the lecture hall of State Key Laboratory of Crop Genetic Improvement. Zhao Chunjiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of National Engineering Research Center for Information Technology in Agriculture, gave a lecture themed as The Developments of Intelligent Agriculture to more than 400 teachers and students, introducing the recent progress in this field at home and abroad. Zhang Xianlong, Vice President of HZAU, presided over the forum.

Prof. Zhao said that intelligent agriculture means the upcoming of agriculture 4.0 era and the trend of agricultural development around the world. Intelligent agriculture combines information technology with agriculture and uses big data and internet technologies to increase the efficiency and precision in agricultural production. Zhao introduced in detail the achievements made by the United States and Europe in intelligent agricultural equipment, intelligent sensing systems, intelligent robots, and agricultural big data in recent years. Intelligent agriculture will also be the future of Chinese agriculture, he said, for it can effectively solve the problems of labor shortage, and can improve precise feeding for livestock and poultry, and precise crop management. At the meeting, he also introduced the progress made by the National Agricultural Information Engineering Technology Research Center in recent years in remote sensing navigation, agricultural machine networking, soil nitrogen sensors, crop canopy sensors, and crop phenotypic groups. To Zhao, there is still a gap between the research and promotion of intelligent agriculture in China and some developed countries, and there are not many scientists and technicians engaged in intelligent agricultural research in agriculture, remote sensing, Internet, big data, machinery and many other fields. But he looked ahead the huge potential in the development of intelligent agriculture in China and encouraged the attendees to make more efforts in the research.
After the lecture, Zhao visited the State Key Laboratory of Crop Genetic Improvement, and had discussions with several professors from the College of Plant Science and Technology, the School of Economics and Management, etc.
