On the morning of December 13th, the meeting was held to evaluate the feasibility of construction of the Animal Biology Security Laboratory-class 3 ( ABSL-3) in HZAU.
It invited some experts from other institutions, including Wu Donglai, deputy director of BSL-4 of China Animal Disease Control Center, Song Donglin, deputy director of Wuhan National Bio-Safety Level 4 Lab of CAS, Liu Zhe, director of Environmental Impact Assessment Center of Hubei Academy of Environmental Sciences, Li Xiangdong, deputy director of ABSL-3 of Wuhan University.
Our university’s relevant researchers also attended the meeting， including: Prof. Chen Huanchun, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Yao Jianglin vice-president of HZAU, Prof. Jin Meilin, deputy director of ABSL.
In the meeting, Mr. Yao expressed his gratitude to the present experts on behalf of HZAU. He said, owing to its important role in the establishment of first-class disciplines(“double first-class”initiative) for our university, we should attach great importance to ABSL-3 construction. He hoped that the experts can assess the program and voice their professional opinion on its significance, necessity and urgency. At last,  he expressed his wish that the lab can meet the demand of disciplinary development within 10 years after its completion.
After the expert panel listened to the report of ABSL-3 construction plan, they conducted on-the-spot investigation, then go on with the evaluation work by questioning the preparatory group. They believed that the construction of ABSL-3 plays an important role in establishing world first-class Veterinary Medicine, developing Bio-medicine, Biology and other related disciplines and implementing national innovation-driven development strategy. They also suggested that we should set up the project, launch environmental impact assessment, safety assessment and compile proposal for the project as soon as possible, hoping it can come into use quickly.
In the end, Prof. Chen Huanchun, on behalf of ABSL-3 of our university, appreciated their suggestions and promised to promote ABSL-3 construction project.
