On the afternoon of October 16, 2017 International Symposium on Parasitic Protozoan Pathogenic Biology was held at Cooperative Innovation Center for Sustainable Pig Production. This symposium was jointly hosted by College of Animal Science & Technology/College of Veterinary Medicine, State Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbiology, Cooperative Innovation Center for Sustainable Pig Production and Key Laboratory of Research and Development of Veterinary Diagnostic Reagent, Ministry of Agriculture. Hu Chengxiao, Dean of International College and Cao Shengbo, Dean of College of Animal Science & Technology/College of Veterinary Medicine attended the opening ceremony. Prof. Shen Bang presided over the opening ceremony. In a welcome speech, Prof. Cao Shengbo gave an introduction of 120-year history of HZAU and the achievements made by College of Animal Science & Technology/College of Veterinary Medicine in scientific research, talents developing and discipline construction. He particularly emphasized the opportunities and challenges confronting the college after its two disciplines Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine being listed as China’s “Double-First Class” construction plan. He also invited participating experts to give valuable suggestions on the university’s future development of Veterinary Medicine.
Later, 14 experts and scholars from home and abroad, including the member of NAS (National Academy of Sciences, United States), researchers of institutions and professors from universities gave special reports respectively and held discussions on various issues, such as the invasion process of Toxoplasma gondii, Plasmodium and Cryptosporidium parvum into host cells and molecular mechanism and regulation mechanism of differentiation and development of host cells, epidemic status and risk factors of Toxoplasma gondii, microsporidian, cryptosporidium parvum and babesia in various animals and environment, and the development and application prospects of vector vaccine of chicken coccidia. Prof. Shen Bang and Associate Prof. He Lan respectively reported the latest research progress of HZAU in growth and pathogenic mechanism of T. gondii, genomics and epidemiology of buffalo babesiosis.
Prof. Zhao Junlong from the College of Veterinary Medicine delivered a concluding speech. He expressed his gratitude to all the participating experts and believed that the symposium was a good summary of the latest achievements and a useful guide for future research in the field of parasitology. The symposium built a platform for foreign and domestic scholars to exchange ideas, which was of great importance to the development of parasitology.
