HZAU Delegation Promotes Cooperation with UNL

Joint Symposium between HZAU and UNL

On September 7 and 8, the Cooperative Meeting and the 2nd Joint Symposium between Huazhong Agricultural University(HZAU) and University of Nebraska–Lincoln(UNL) were held in Lincoln Nebraska with Wu Ping and some other professors from HZAU attending.
HZAU delegation met Michael J. Boehm, the Chancellor of UNL, and visited the Centre for Plant Science Innovation, advanced research platform for internal and external crop phenotype, experimental field for genetically modified crops like corn and soybean, as well as school library and Student Centre. They also attended a bio–chemistry lecture by Professor Ed Harris for undergraduate students.
The 2nd Joint Symposium was held in UNL as an important part of cooperation with “Agricultural Innovation for Enhanced Crop Production" as its title. Dr. Archie Clutter, Dean from College of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources, and Wu Ping made speeches respectively on the behalf of UNL and HZAU. The speeches mainly focused on the introduction of school facilities and the history of bilateral cooperation. 11 persons in total made their own reports at the symposium, including Prof. Wang Xuelu’ s “Hormonal Signaling Network, Soybean Biology and Root Nodule Symbiosis”, Prof. Luo Jie’ s “Crop Metabolomics”, and Prof. Wang Xuemin’ s “Carbon Partitioning, Oil Accumulation, and Seed Production”. Then Prof. Liu Lei and Prof. Cai Guangqing presented the progress of their own researches. Finally, Prof. Wang Xuelu made a introduction about the College of Life Sciences & Technology and its advantages. He said: "It is necessary to seek further cooperation between UNL and HZAU, and there is a bright prospect ahead of us." The reports delivered by HZAU delegation sparked a heated discussion among the experts attending the symposium.
A seminar was also held after the symposium. It focused on various issues such as establishment of cooperation studies center, exchange students, annual joint symposium and further cooperation. The attendees had a thorough discussion on those issues and reached a consensus in the end. During the seminar, Prof. Wang Xuelu and Prof. Jin Anjiang made a detailed introduction about the College of Life Sciences & Technology to students of UNL. Many students showed interests to study in HZAU after hearing the introduction.
During the stay in the United States, HZAU delegation also visited the University of California, San Diego and Salk Institute for Biological Studies where they met and talked with Professor Zhao Yunde(an expert of The Recruitment Program of Global Experts), some visiting scholars and other old schoolmates from HZAU.
