On February 19th, academic committee meeting & seminar of Key Laboratory of Rapeseed Genetics and Breeding(RGB), Ministry of Agriculture was held at HZAU’s National Key Laboratory Building of Crop Genetic Improvement. This meeting aimed to make a summary report of scientific fruits in 2016 and outline a future plan for the lab..

Nearly 80 people participated in this meeting, among the attendees were Guan Chunyun, CAE Member and Director of the Academic Committee ; Wang Hanzhong, Deputy Dean of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences; Zhang Xianlong, Vice President of HZAU; the members of the Academic Committee and other leaders of related departments.

At the beginning, Zhou Yongming, Director of Laboratory gave a summary report on the implementation of “12th Five-year Plan” and the Laboratory work in 2016. From 2011 to 2016, the Lab made numerous achievements: 14 achievements in both science and technology and talents cultivation; 17 new varieties of rape approved, of which 6 were state-approved. Meanwhile, the regional test of the new varieties has been completed; breeding materials are in good condition and ample reservation. The approved variety planting area was extended to an area of about 1.6 million acres, thus creating good social and economic benefits. Furthermore, the lab got 18 approved patents and published more than 200 articles, of which over 160 papers were published in Science, Plant Cell and other SCI journals. The Lab cultivated more than 200 graduates, trained 12000 technicians at all levels. Subsequently, 7 representatives of the Laboratory reported their projects progress respectively.

After hearing the report, members of the Committee reviewed and discussed over the work of the Laboratory. Director Guan offered his suggestions on the development of the laboratory. For example, profound study on bioinformatics and significant biological issues can be strengthened by making full use of the existing rich germplasm resources and collaborative innovation between the research groups and brother Institutes. Besides, members of the committee proposed that the Laboratory should push the development of the entire discipline through the extended research and initiate new research revolving around the new problems of the China’s rapeseed production while maintaining the present research advantage.

At last, Zhou Yongming said that the Lab members would further adjust research direction, integrate resources and power, and actively cooperate with domestic and foreign counterparts to improve the work of the laboratory.
