In HZAU, one regional key laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture（MOA） was upgraded to a discipline cluster comprehensive key laboratory and three new special (regional) key laboratories were approved of construction, according to “The Notice of Construction List of Key Laboratories and Scientific Observation Experimental Stations, MOA During the 13th Five-Year Plan issued by the MOA (2016, Nongbanke, No. 29) on December 30.

“Key Laboratory of Biology and Genetic Improvement of Horticultural Crops(Central China), MOA” was upgraded to "Key Laboratory of Biology and Genetic Improvement of Horticultural Crops (fruit tree), MOA", which will lead the construction and management of key laboratories and agricultural science observation experimental station of "Biology and Genetic Improvement of Horticultural Crops" in fruit tree field. The newly approved three special (regional) key laboratories are “the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Equipment in the Middle and Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River, MOA" among regional key laboratories of “Modern agricultural Equipment”, “the Key Laboratory of Urban Agriculture(Central China) among regional key laboratories of “Urban Agricultural Equipment Discipline Cluster”, and "the Key Laboratory of Potato Biology and Biotechnology, MOA" among regional key laboratories of “Tuber Crop Biology and Genetics and Breeding Discipline Cluster" respectively.

It is reported that the newly added key laboratories, after being qualified in the evaluation of a two-year operation, will be officially authorized by the MOA. During the 12th and 13th Five-Year Plan period, there are 13 key laboratories of the MOA constructed in HZAU, which are 3 discipline cluster comprehensive key laboratories, 4 discipline cluster regional key laboratories, and 6 discipline cluster special key laboratories respectively.
