On May 4th, 2017, three professors from Kyoto University, Eiji Nawata, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Prof. Ryutaro Tao as well as Prof. Hisashi Miyagawa from the Graduate School of Agriculture visited HZAU, giving a lecture titled “The Self-Compatibility and Recognition Mechanism in Cerasus Plants” in the Key Laboratory of Horticulture Plant Biology, Ministry of Education. Zhang Hongrong, Party Secretary of the College of Horticulture & Forestry Sciences and Prof. Kuang Hanhui from the Department of Fruit Trees received the guests and hosted the report together.
Beginning with plant self-incompatibility, Prof. Ryutaro Tao expounded its physiological significance and then enumerated many crops that feature self-incompatibility within Cerasus families.
From the perspective of S gene in pistil and stamen, his team induced amino acid sequence by designed related primer, identified the significant role of S gene in pistil by DNA band and PCR analyses, and then figured out the role of S gene in corresponding stamen. They concluded the SC/SI identification mode and finally tested the accuracy of the mode through S gene mutant in pistil. After the report, Prof. Ryutaro Tao communicated with present teachers and students.
Later, Dean Eiji Nawata and Prof. Hisashi Miyagawa gave a brief introduction of academic studies in Kyoto University, program directions in the Graduate School of Agriculture, and research overview of the Laboratory of Tropical Crop Science and the Laboratory of Bioregulation Chemistry. They also welcomed Chinese students to study at Kyoto University.
