On Apr. 22nd-23rd, 2017 the 1st Forum on the Development of Landscape Architecture Discipline (DLAD), hosted by the appraisal panel for landscape architecture discipline under the State Council Academic Degrees Committee (SCADC) and undertaken by Tongji University, was held in Shanghai, with the theme of “scientific research guides discipline development”. The forum was attended by persons in charge of the discipline from 37 universities with authorized centers for doctoral and master degree in landscape architecture.

Prof. Zhang Bin from the Department of Landscape Architecture of HZAU attended the forum and made a report entitled “Reflections on the Scientific Research of Landscape Architecture and the Exploration by HZAU”. He analyzed the status quo and prospect of the scientific research of landscape architecture in China and the United States and introduced characteristics and achievements of landscape architecture research in HZAU from four aspects, including theory and history of landscape architecture, planning and design of landscape architecture, landscape planning and ecological restoration as well as landscape plants and their applications.

The purpose of this forum was to comply with the requirements of the SCADC for the development of landscape architecture discipline and to improve disciplinary scientific research and construction. The participants conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on meeting requirements and achieving goals of SCADA for the development of landscape architecture discipline, the role of scientific research in the development of landscape architecture discipline and problems and solutions of scientific research with this regard.
