The 3rd Alumni Congress of HZAU Shanghai Alumni Association unfolded in Shanghai on October 21. Gao Chi, Party Secretary of HZAU, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
The event saw over 400 participants, including representatives from the university office, alumni office, some colleges, and faculties, as well as members of the 3rd Board of the Shanghai Alumni Association of HZAU and various alumni associations. The meeting was presided over by Zhao Jibin, the executive president of HZAU Shanghai Alumni Association, chairman of Shanghai Triowin Intelligent Machinery Co., Ltd., and a 1993-batch alumnus majoring in Food Engineering.
The conference commenced with all singing the university anthem. Then, Luo Lijun, president of the Shanghai Alumni Association of HZAU and a 1978-batch alumnus majoring in Agronomy, delivered a speech, extending a warm welcome on behalf of the Shanghai Alumni Association to faculties and alumni representatives. He thanked HZAU for the education provided, the support from various fellow alumni associations, and the diligent efforts of the organizing committee. During his speech, Luo Lijun expressed three expectations: firstly, he hoped for the continued support and concern of HZAU for alumni development; secondly, he aspired to promote exchanges among alumni organizations; and thirdly, he urged all alumni to work together to support alumni growth, elevate HZAU to a world-class university, and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Deng Zixin, the Honorary President of the Shanghai Alumni Association and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, congratulated on the convening of the conference via video. He acknowledged the collective efforts of successive alumni in Shanghai, which have gradually transformed the Shanghai Alumni Association into a cohesive and supportive family. Deng also emphasized the importance of staying true to the original aspiration and continuing to carry out various tasks as required by HZAU and the Alumni Association, contributing the strength of alumni to the development of HZAU and society.
Zou Feng, secretary general of the Shanghai Alumni Association, director of Limin Holding Group Co., Ltd. and a 1985-batch alumnus in Plant Protection major, provided a comprehensive report on the work of Shanghai Alumni Association, covering its overview, major activities, and work plans. He emphasized that the Shanghai Alumni Association will continue to uphold the principles of building the association with “political integrity, standardized manner, and service-oriented development”, and adhere to the mission of “serving alumni, serving HZAU, and serving society”. He expressed the determination to develop the organization, making it a model among alumni associations.
Zhang Baoping, Shanghai Alumni Association’s Standing Vice President, Founder of Shanghai Monwei Biomedical Technology Co., Ltd., and a 1994-batch Animal Science major alumnus, delivered a speech on behalf of the 3rd Board of Shanghai Alumni Association. He affirmed the commitment of all alumni in Shanghai to win honor for the university, society, and the nation.
In his address, Gao spoke highly of the fruitful efforts of the Shanghai Alumni Association. After providing an overview of HZAU’s development, he stated that leading the way in their work are Shanghai alumni who vividly embody the spirit of the university’s motto “Learn and Practice, Achieve and Help Achieve”. He also expressed two keys hopes for alumni organizations: one is to further advance the development of “a strong emotional bond, shared values, and a collaborative community” between alumni and HZAU for its brighter future; the other is to continue recruiting new alumni members and supporting the development of young alumni, with the aim of nurturing a more robust core within alumni organizations. Moreover, he noted that alumni are important assets to the university, and the university’s development greatly relies on the care and support of its alumni. He extended his gratitude and deep respect to all alumni, encouraging them to live up to their youth, uphold the spirit of HZAU’s motto, and make outstanding contributions to social development. He also stated that the university is proud of alumni’s accomplishments during their time at school and is committed to supporting them as they pursue even greater successes in their careers.
Luo Lijun, Chief Scientist of Shanghai Agrobiological Gene Center, and Luo Shun, the Founder, Chairman, and President of Thousand Oaks & JSBio (a 1978-batch alumnus majoring in Agronomy), respectively delivered invited speeches on “Blue Revolution for Ensuring Rice and Food Security under the Carbon-Neutral Background: Solutions for Water-Saving and Drought-Resistant Rice” and “Challenges and Opportunities for the Development of China’s Biotechnology and Biopharmaceutical Industries”.
The conference also featured several forums, including the Life and Health Industry Forum, Food Industry Development Forum, Financial Investment Forum, and Shijin Forum. Additionally, during the event, the establishment of the “Huazhong Agricultural University Alumni Association for the Life and Health Industry” was announced, and its first council was elected.
During his stay in Shanghai, Gao was invited to attend the joint meeting of Presidents of the HZAU Landscape Architecture Alumni Association and engaged in discussions and exchanges with alumni.
