On the morning of October 1, the flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the founding of the PRC was held at the East Stadium, HZAU when the brilliant sunshine came after rain with pleasant breeze in crisp autumn days.

At 8 o’clock, after a loud command, the national flag guards, with bright eyes and great fortitude, began a determined marching towards the flag-raising platform along the central axis of the Stadium.

Accompanied by the resolute national anthem, March of the Volunteer, the flag-raiser unfurled the national flag to raise it high. Meanwhile, faculties and students who spontaneously came to participate in the ceremony, along with Young Pioneers, sang the national anthem and held a salute to the national flag in unison to express their deep blessings to the motherland.
“When the national flag was raised, tears were welling up in my eyes. If any color can stand for faith, I think, it must be China red! This ceremony means a lot to us freshmen: it is not only an unforgettable practice of patriotism education, but also a good chance that enable us to gain much motivation to be the new era’s great young generation, a generation with ideals, a sense of responsibility, grit, and dedication. And we young people should take our words into practical actions to serve the motherland in the near future”, said by Yin Yanlin, a freshman from the College of Economics & Management, who arrived at the Stadium early with her partner Zou Jiayan to witness the solemn moment.

“As far as we can see, it’s China; And the five stars on the national flag shine because of our faith”, said Wei Ruobing, a student from the College of Plant Sciences &Technology, who has attended the ceremony on the National Day for three years on end as she always did at many of such meaningful moments. She said, “It seems to become a ‘habit’ engraved in my bones to attend the flag-raising ceremony, and I will keep to do this in the future. As we all known, our country has undergone glorious victories, but also experienced tough moments in the past 74 years. So, I wish our country lasting prosperity and we people greater happiness. Lastly, pledging to the motherland, we youngsters are ready to build a powerful China!"

They had come to Wuhan to participate in the "Big Hands Holding Small Hands, and Observing the World with Smiling Eyes- Rural Children's Urban Experience Trip" organized by the "Benyu Volunteer Service Team" of the Graduate Student Volunteer Teaching Group. “On such an important day, taking them to participate in such a flag-raising ceremony has special significance, which is to engender them to feel the greatness of our motherland in such a patriotic educational activity, and to stimulate the patriotic feelings in the depth of their hearts", said Zhang Le, a volunteer of the 19th Graduate Student Volunteer Teaching Group.
