On the afternoon of September 14th, Li Zhaohu, the president of HZAU, had an intimate gathering with students at We-Space (Room 103 of Integrated Student Services Building) where Li helped students there with all the questions concerning with their study and life in this new semester.
“Hello to you all, my dear students! How did you spend your summer vacation?” Li broke the ice with a warm welcome and invited several students to share their experience and harvest on the vocation. After listening to the share with rapt attention, Li took a stroll down memory lane and recalled that when he was studying abroad, the local students there helped hand-husk the corn ears during the holidays. He urged students to optimize the vocation and the spare time to take part in a variety of extracurricular activities, so as to acquire hands-on experience and promote overall quality for self-improvement.
In response to students' inquisitiveness relating to the prospect and the developing direction of agriculture in China, Li noted that the development of modern agriculture is quite promising and enjoys a long-lasting vitality since agriculture is the very base to better meet people's needs for a better life. On the one hand, he encouraged students to do intensive practices in both agricultural production and everyday life. On the other hand, he aspired for all students to commit themselves to pioneering innovation in cutting-edge science and technology, addressing key research challenges that impede the nation's agricultural progress as future top-notch talents in this field. In view of online public discourse, he maintained a serious tone, emphasizing that cyberspace is not a place beyond the rule of law, so it is imperative for students nowadays to strictly abide by the related laws and regulations and regulate their words and deeds, contributing to a healthy cyberspace. Also, he called upon that being law-aware and law-abiding ones, students should approach negative content online with a rational and objective mindset. This, he emphasized, would help them avoid being carried away by the “vicious tide” rising from social network and, in turn, safeguard the security of network information.
Besides, Li promptly tackled students’ concerns regarding with the enhancement of HZAU’s reputation, sports facilities and living environment. Within the interactive forum, a few students were invited to be “President's Assistants” and offer advice and suggestions for the development of HZAU. The lively exchange of ideas between faculty and students created a relaxed and harmonious atmosphere.

As students shoulder heavy responsibilities, Li also exhorted them to be firm in their ideals and convictions and remain attuned to society’s ever-evolving needs and the cutting edge of scientific advancement. Students were encouraged to embrace challenges through both study and daily life practice, enrich their knowledge and skills, and persistently strive for progress. To help students fulfill potentials, Li reassured students that HZAU stands resolute in its commitment to provide them with myriad avenues for practical experience and an expansive platform for personal growth.
