Prompt: At 8 a.m. on September 7, HZAU held an opening ceremony to welcome incoming students in 2023 in East Stadium.

At the beginning of the ceremony, all new students pinned their university badges, which meant that they were new members of HZAU with 125 years’ history and they would be inspired to carry forward the university spirit, “Learn and Practice, Achieve and Help Achieve” . Dr. Sun Yan, professor of ecology from the College of Resources and Environment delivered a speech on behalf of faculty members. Here are three key words shared by her: goal, growth and attempt. She encouraged incoming students to set their own goals, stay curious and keep trying.

Wang Jiatong from the College of Animal Science and Technology and Veterinary Medicine delivered a speech on behalf of undergraduate freshmen. She chose to major in animal science out of her experiences and interests. She was determined to devote herself to ecological conservation and building a community with a shared future for mankind with what she would learn during subsequent years on campus.

Xiang gave a speech on behalf of graduate students. After completing her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at HZAU, she was ready to pursue further studies and dedicate herself to ensuring that China’s food supply remains firmly in its own hand.

President Li extended a warm welcome to new students and heartfelt greetings to their families on behalf of the University.
“This year marks the 125th anniversary of HZAU.” said Li. He declared that HZAU is a forerunner of agricultural higher education in China with rich and profound culture. In an new era, students need to keep innovating. As the old saying goes, persist in innovation and become more innovative every day.

Prof. Li gave three pieces of advice to students on innovation.
First, develop innovative thinking and be brave to innovate and chase dreams.
Second, be diligent and pragmatic to promote innovation capability.
Third, enjoy a journey of innovation and be willing to innovate with efforts.
At the end of speech, he expressed his hopes, “Future is created by young people. You are supposed to be brave in innovation, be good at innovation and be ready for innovation. I hope that you are determined to work hard and innovate at HZAU and devote yourselves to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and building of a community with a shared future for mankind.”
