(Report/Fu Jianwei, Xu Hongmei, Zhouyong) On Dec 16, Forum 2022 Science and Technology for Agricultural and Rural Development, and Forum on Modern Agriculture Development in China were held in Beijing. At the forum, China Association of Agricultural Science Societies (CAASS) officially released the 35 selected new achievements, including 10 technologies, 12 products and 12 equipment. The double-channel full feeding harvester for ratoon rice developed by Huazhong Agricultural University was listed in the Major New Equipment. Adopted the form of one chassis carrying two sets of working parts, the harvester is also equipped with the high-trafficability chassis, double-channel header, and straw crushing and throwing device. It breaks through the bottleneck of the high rolling rate of mechanical harvesting in the first round of ratoon rice harvesting. HZAU has full independent intellectual property rights on the equipment.
According to the director of CAASS, Major New Technologies, Products and Equipment for Agricultural and Rural Development in China 2022 (or “Three News”) were determined after primary, secondary and final selections. The results correspond with the requirements of “the frontier of international science and technology, the main battlefield of economy, the nation’s major demand, and the public health”, and are closely related with the implementation of major national strategies and the industries being encouraged; accords with the requirements of high-quality development and construction of a country strong in agriculture; have a broad application prospect, boosting the development of industries. The “Three News” also stand out with their core technologies and complete technical evaluation system, satisfying the conditions for promotion and instant application (without pilot-scale experiment and maturation). Besides, significantly impacting the progress of agricultural and rural technology, the “Three News” have solved critical technical problems in agricultural production. The potential economic, social, and ecological benefits cannot be ignored as well.
The selections of the “Three News” have been conducted for 5 consecutive years, and more than 150 achievements have got released and promoted, which will be constantly transformed into production efficiency and work as the new driver to help realize the rural vitalization in an all-about way and the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.
