(Report/Song Lanxiang) On the morning of Dec 6, Li Zhaohu (President of HZAU) and Yang Shaobo (Vice President of HZAU) were invited to participate in the online meeting of China-Yale Advanced University Leadership Program. Focusing on “Learning in the digital age”, they discussed the trend of online higher education together with others including Peking University and Tsinghua University, promoting the development and cooperation in this field between universities from China and USA.

Li delivered a speech on the topic of “exploration and practice of digital transformation in higher education”, introducing HZAU’s efforts in digital transformation and the vision for future. He pointed out that HZAU had taken comprehensive measures to implement the digital transformation of education at the intersection of sci-tech frontier and industrial information: First, drive the digital transformation of academic majors by the digital transformation of industries. Through integration of disciplines, we can lay out new majors while transforming the traditional ones, and build the digital course group; Second, develop digital courses and teaching material, and promote online courses; Third, establish digital learning platform, including the virtual simulation experiment teaching platform; Forth, enrich teaching modes, and advance the application of online and offline hybrid teaching; Fifth, construct virtual teaching and research office, and explore the transformation of teaching organization.
Li stressed that adhering to student-centered principle, HZAU would realize a paradigm shift from an application-oriented to a people-oriented approach and digital transformation of education as a whole; from a supply-driven to a demand-driven focus, the strategic resource reserves would be reinforced for the digital transformation of education; from the theory-focused to the practice-focused teaching, the talent training would be improved through high-quality digitization.
Co-hosted by China Scholarship Council and Yale University, the online meeting was organized by Peking University. It’s one of the significant achievements of the 7th China-US High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange that presidents of Chinese universities are selected to visit Yale University every year for communication and study. This online meeting was held to continue such cooperation.
