A strategic cooperative agreement was signed on Friday, Dec 9 by HZAU and Jiangxia District People’s Government in Wuhan, to open a new chapter in university-district ties.
Representatives from both parties attended the signing ceremony, including Li Zhaohu, President of HZAU; Yao Jianglin, deputy Party Secretary of the School Committee and vice President of HZAU; directors and faculty representatives from the Academy of Science and Technology Development, the university's Youth League Committee, College of Animal Sciences & Technology, College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Life Sciences & Technology, College of Horticulture & Forestry Sciences College of Fisheries; Zhang Fei, Party Secretary of Jiangxia District Committee; Shu Guichuan, District Governor; Liu Xin, deputy Party Secretary of District Committee; Zhang Lifeng, vice District Governor; and directors from the Bureau of Agricultural and Rural Affairs in Jiangxia District. Shu Guichuan presided over the ceremony.

Yao Jianglin and Zhang lifeng signed the agreement on behalf of the university and the district at the meeting. This agreement aims to promote cooperation in key sci-tech programs and the commercialization of advanced sci-tech achievements. The university and district will jointly build talent training bases and enhance talent exchanges while establishing well-known agricultural brands to promote the influence of the produce from Jiangxia District.
Shu Guichuan introduces basic conditions and socioeconomic development in Jiangxia District from such aspects as industrial development, technological innovation, territory, ecological environment and culture.
Zhang Fei, Party Secretary of Jiangxia District expresses his sincere appreciation to HZAU for its long-standing care and support for the district. He notes that HZAU, with its long history, strong faculty and leading scientific research, has cultivated numerous outstanding talents and produced internationally influential research findings related to agriculture and rural areas. Zhang hopes that HZAU can give full play to its strength in talent, sci-tech and education. He expects that the university, with Jiangxia District as its “demonstration farm”, can empower the high-quality social and economic development of this region. Through joint efforts, they can build Jiangxia into a demonstration zone for integrated urban-rural development and the commercialization of advanced sci-tech achievements.
Li Zhaohu stresses that HZAU, as a national double First-Class university, will shoulder its responsibility in achieving rural vitalization, sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening, and innovation-driven development. He adds that HZAU will fulfill its mission of advancing local development. Li says that he is full of confidence in the win-win cooperation and the future development of Jiangxia District, which is endowed with outstanding advantages in location, ecological environment, solid industrial foundation and strong development potential.
He calls for a good top-level design to fully and deeply integrate the strengths of HZAU into regional development and emphasizes three key points for cooperation. First, it is imperative to have a good strategic plan. To develop modern agriculture in harmony with nature, it is necessary to combine the advantages of HZAU in intelligence and talents with Jiangxia’s excellent geographical location. To this end, modern agriculture demonstration zones need to be established, serving as examples of modern urban agriculture. Second, it is essential to cultivate a professional talent team. HZAU will provide training programs to cultivate a talent group of “Lead Goose” for rural vitalization. In doing so, these pioneers, including directors of leading enterprises, new types of agribusiness and spearheads of poverty alleviation in rural areas of Jiangxia District, can upgrade their development philosophy and build up capacity. Third, it is important to establish an innovation platform. This platform where innovation factors converge, will help Jiangxia District create the prospects for a brighter future with more high-quality social resources.
