On May 14, the 7th Animal Medicine & 5th Animal Science Skills Competition were held respectively at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the National Breeding Swine Quality Supervision & Testing Center of HZAU. More than 370 students participated in the competition to enhance their learning and show their professional skills.

Gao Chi (secretary of the Party Committee of HZAU) and Qing Ping (HZAU vice president) paid a visit to the live competition. After hearing the introduction, Gao Chi and other relevant leaders observed candidates’ operating procedures while having cordial exchanges with them.

This Animal Medicine Skills Competition consisted of three parts: pathogen examination, surgery and poultry pathology anatomy. The Animal Science Skills Competition was also divided into three parts: pig appearance score and backfat thickness measurement, rapid identification of feed ingredients and adulteration identification, and core skills of poultry production.
Liu Xingbin (secretary of the Party committee of College of Animal Science and Technology & College of Animal Medicine) stressed that the competition served as an important platform for talent training on which undergraduate students could showcase their practical operative ability and improve their expertise. By turning their passion into career motivation, they are expected to become a pillar of society that safeguards life security and human health.
Li Dapeng (executive vice president of Undergraduate School and director of Dean’s Office) said that as a long-run competition with HZAU distinctiveness, the skills competition of the College of Animal Science and Technology & College of Animal Medicine has played an essential role in the training of animal husbandry and veterinary talents. He hoped that students could combine theory with practice, improve their professional level, develop their teamwork spirit and make great progress in the competition. Li Dapeng emphasized that in the future, HZAU will continue to provide more high-level platforms and high-quality resources for students’ growth, and shape them into the preeminent ones who shall pursue excellence all along. Finally, he quoted the speech by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his visit to Renmin University of China and expressed his expectations to the students, “I hope all young people will bear in mind the Party’s instructions, commit themselves to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and live up to the prime of their lives, to their mission of the times and to the expectations of the people. They should run with all their might on the track of youth, and win the best results the youth today are supposed to get.”
