The 64th International Maize Genetics Conference was held in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, from March 31 to April 3. During the conference, Professor Yan Jianbing won the L. Stadler Mid-Career Award. Prof. Yan was the seventh recipient of the award since its establishment in 2016, and the first scientist from non-American country to win the award.
Given the epidemic, Prof. Yan was unable to attend this conference at the scene, so he delivered his acceptance speech via video: the epidemic has made the problem of world’s food security more severe, and scientists around the world should work together on the basic and applied research on maize, so as to make a greater contribution to ensuring the world’s food security and keep the world away from hunger.
L. Stadler Mid-Career Award was established by the Maize Genetics Cooperative (MGC) to nominate and reward a scientist who has been independently engaged in scientific research for 9 to 20 years and has made notable contributions to the genetic research of maize (or other related species), with one award-winner annually. The award is named after Professor Lewis John Stadler (1896-1954) in honor of his outstanding contributions to maize genetics. Nominated by world-renowned scientists and then voted on by a nine-member jury, the award is of great significance in the international academic community of maize research.
