The progress meeting for the development of the National Engineering Research Center for Microbial Pesticides (NERC-MP) was held at HZAU on the afternoon of February 24. President Li Zhaohu, Vice President Yao Jianglin and the director of NERC-MP attended the meeting, together with the department heads of NERC-MP and the directors of the Academy of Science and Technology Development, the Human Resource Department, the Finance and Asset Management Department, and the College of Life Science and Technology. The meeting was chaired by Yao Jianglin.

At the meeting, Sun Ming, director of NERC-MP, reported the three-year development plan. According to his report, to meet the major national needs for green agriculture, the research center would break bottlenecks of key core technology in the field of microbial pesticides and related products, giving full play of disciplinary advantages by strengthening cooperation with HZAU, so as to promote the transfer and transformation of original achievements and key core technologies, provide strong support for the green development of crop production and breeding industry, and ensure food safety and people’s health.
The participants had an in-depth discussion on the development plan of NERC-MP. They made specific suggestions on positioning of the center, research directions, research team building, resource optimization and integration, operation mechanism innovation, capital construction, and guarantee of conditions.
Yao Jianglin said the members of NERC-MP should cherish the research achievements and keep working hard to do well in all aspects of the work. They should make a to-do list as soon as possible and reinforce their confidence to overcome difficulties. The center should be precisely positioned to build a brand and promote the deep integration of innovation chain and industry chain. It was also important to coordinate resources and enhance competitiveness. What’s more, the research center should innovate its mechanism, improve the quality and efficiency, and accelerate the establishment of a high-level national strategic science and technology force.
President Li spoke highly of the contribution of the research center in integrating production and education and supporting the “Double First Class” construction of HZAU over the years. Li said the center should consult relevant national administrative measures to clarify its functional positioning and promote the research of key common technologies and engineering industrialization technologies. It should be actively open to the industry, cooperate closely with co-construction units, and attract social resources to participate in its development. It should improve the three-year development plan, make scientific construction plan of its main building, and systematically make the development plan of NERC-MP with relevant functional departments and colleges. He said HZAU would coordinate innovation resources, increase support for the research center, and promote the innovation of its internal governance mechanism, so as to make NERC-MP an internationally renowned platform for microbial pesticide technology research and talent cultivation and make greater contribution to the green, efficient, and sustainable development of agriculture in China.
