HZAU Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) key labs have increased to 16 according to the recently announced “14th Five-Year Plan” key laboratories list. 3 newly added ones are the Key Lab of African Swine Fever and Other Major Pig Diseases Prevention and Control, the Key Lab of Aquaculture Facilities Engineering and the Key Lab of Smart Breeding Technology.
Started since “12th Five-Year Plan”, key labs construction work among discipline groups has been an important part of the national agricultural science and technology innovation system. MARA key labs have grown up as a strong scientific and technological power supporting high-quality agricultural development and all-round rural revitalization now.
Brief Introduction to 3 Newly Added Key Labs
Key Lab of ASF and Other Major Pig Diseases P&C, MARA
Supported by HZAU, the lab is jointly built by the Academy of Military Sciences, Military Veterinary Research Institute. It strives to treat major pig diseases such as ASF and porcine epidemic diarrhea with the Spirit of Innovation-Creation-Entrepreneurship. To cope with digestive, respiratory and reproductive problems in pigs, the lab carries out studies on pathogenesis and epidemiology, molecular biology of pathogens, P&C technologies and products from the above aspects. A pig pathogen biology and disease P&C innovation base will be founded, and the technology, products and talent support will be provided for the whole industry.
Key Lab of Aquaculture Facilities Engineering, MARA
Supported by HZAU, the lab is jointly built by the Fishery Machinery and Instrument Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences. It is working in the areas of aquaculture facilities, mechanization levels, and farming environments by conducting research in the following four directions: breeding process and mode, engineering equipment, breeding environment and system engineering, and mariculture facilities and engineering equipment. By integrating engineering, aquaculture, informatics and other multidisciplinary technology, the output of scientific research results about modes, facilities, equipments, standards and protocols of aquaculture facilities, etc. provide effective engineering science and technology support for the green and high-quality development of aquaculture in China.
Key Lab of Smart Breeding Technology, MARA
The lab is jointly built by CAU (China Agricultural University) and HZAU to solve the bottleneck problems faced by China’s breeding industry. Combined with HZAU advantageous disciplines, it conducts research on AI and knowledge discovery, machine learning and computer vision, IOT and smart equipment, and smart breeding big data management and application in the guidance of information technologies such as AI and big data. The lab has made great contributions to the fields of livestock breeding ecology, industry chain interconnection, livestock agricultural production, production efficiency, China’s meat, egg and milk industry system, providing scientific and technological and talent support for the China’s breeding industry innovation, green agricultural development, and ecological civilization construction.
