From December 18th to 20th, the final of the 1st China Postdoctoral Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition was held in Foshan, Guangdong Province. HZAU’s project “Microbial Agents for Treatment of Industrial Wastewater with High Concentration and Low Biodegradability” distinguished itself from other projects and won the gold award. Led by Dr. Wu Dingxin from College of Life Science and Technology and Postdoctoral Research Station of Agricultural Resources and Environment, HZAU, this project is also the only project from Hubei province that earned gold medal in this competition.

Four projects of HZAU were shortlisted for the finals. In the project “Microbial Agents for Treatment of Industrial Wastewater with High Concentration and Low Biodegradability”, Dr. Wu Dingxin’s team has independently developed more than 40 products in five series, which have been widely used in treatment of industrial wastewater, municipal sewage, livestock and poultry breeding wastewater and in ecological restoration of rivers and lakes. Its research results had made great contribution to water environment treatment and protection. The other three finalists of HZAU were the “Pig Cloning Technology in Agricultural Breeding and Biomedicine” by Dr. Liu Xin from the postdoctoral research station of animal husbandry, “Male Sterility Mechanism and Seedless Breeding of Citrus Cytoplasmic Hybrids ‘Huayou No.2’” Dr. Wang Rong from the postdoctoral research station of horticulture and “Fishery and Frog Aquaculture Technology-Achieving Rural Revitalization” by Dr. Hu Ruixue from the post-doctoral research station of aquatic sciences.
Organized by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the National Postdoctoral Management Committee, this competition is the largest national postdoctoral innovation and entrepreneurship competition at the highest level and with the most extensive coverage since the introduction of China's postdoctoral system. This year’s competition was on the theme “Gather the essence of technology, innovation leads the future”. There were four competition groups: innovation, entrepreneurship, overseas group and enterprise-researcher cooperation. Since kicked off in June 2021, more than 1400 projects around the country were shortlisted for the finals. After fierce competition, 57 gold medals, 91 silver medals and 125 bronze medals were awarded, among which Hubei province’s projects won 1 gold medal, 9 silver medals and 6 bronze medals.
