A special matriculation ceremony was held in front of the bronze statue of Zhang Zhidong (the founder of HZAU) on October 22. 41 undergraduate and postgraduate students from Fujian and other places, together with some teachers, attended the ceremony. Those students were delayed to matriculate because COVID-19 worsened in their hometowns.
Huang Qiuying, a teacher representative from College of Plant Sciences & Technology, shared his 26-year happy experiences at HZAU. From a village in Fujian, he felt grateful to be admitted to HZAU and work here after graduation. For those students, Professor Huang hoped that they should strive to be industrious in learning, vigorous in practice, eminent in society and inspirational in life, to pursue their dreams with high academic standard, and to be proud of being part of HZAU.

Zhang Xinyu, a freshman representative from College of Animal Sciences & Technology, said that this special matriculation ceremony compensated for the offline one that they had missed before. Before the delayed registration time, Zhang Xinyu took an online course Introduction to Life Sciences, taught by Academician Zhang Qifa. In her course assignment “My Dream of Life Science”, Zhang Xinyu wrote down her scientific research dream: to gain some achievements in the application of microbial fermentation production technology of hyaluronic acid.
Li Zhaohu (President of HZAU) showed his concern for those students who were delayed to come to school because of pandemic prevention and control. Taking “Great Ambitions” as the key word, he encouraged every student to keep in mind that college students should make great contributions to our country and people, so as to realize the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation. During 123 years of development since its founding, HZAU has striven to realize our national prosperity and rejuvenation, and improve people’s well-being. Every HZAUer tries to shoulder his/her responsibility in his/her way.

Gao Chi (Party Secretary of HZAU) and Li Zhaohu (President of HZAU) gave notebooks to 41 students and encouraged them to be hard-working and write new life chapters. In order to compensate for those students’ missing of the offline matriculation ceremony, HZAU chose to hold this special ceremony in front of Zhang Zhidong Statue, who was the founder of HZAU. Students are supposed to start their new life with responsibilities: to devote themselves to boosting agricultural prosperity and realizing our national prosperity.
