HZAU Teacher Saves Suicidal Girl Twice

On the morning of September 27, several teachers from a college in Wuhan went to HZAU and sent a gratitude banner to Kong Hao, a young teacher of the College of Marxism, who saved one of their students from an attempted suicide.

On the morning of September 12, when Kong drove to the school and passed under the Yezhihu Lake Bridge, he found two students behaving strangely. Being aware of the possible danger, Kong immediately pulled off the road and ran to the lake.

Behind the guardrail, a girl was leaning out of the embankment, half-hung in the air, with one hand grasped by a boy. At the critical moment, Kong stepped forward to clutch the girl’s arm and shouted "H-E-L-P!" A middle-aged man passing by rushed over and helped seize the girl. With the joint efforts of the three, the girl was finally pulled back to the shore.

"I am a teacher from HZAU. This is my phone number. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you want to talk," Kong said to the girl.

"Thank you, teacher. I’m fine," replied the girl .

Kong was still worried about her, so he pretended to leave and then drove back again to check if the girl was safe.

What Kong had worried about did happen before long. The girl broke free from her boyfriend and plunged into the lake. Fortunately, the deposited silt stopped her from sinking into the lake, but the water had already submerged her thighs. Without a second thought, Kong, together with two passers-by, managed to drag her back. A man working on the lake also drove over and blocked the girl with his boat. A man doing morning exercises also hurried over to help. Although the girl was safe now, as a responsible teacher, Kong was still concerned about her security and decided to take the girl and her boyfriend back to a safe place.

After the two got into his car, Kong kept chatting with them. The girl became gradually calm and told Kong her identity and the reason why she had tried to commit suicide. After learning the girl is a senior from a college in Wuhan, Kong sent the girl and her boyfriend back to their college and informed the college of the incident, whose leaders immediately urged teachers and tutors to take care of the girl. Reassured, Kong finally went back home, only then did he find he was muddy all over. After two days, Kong contacted the girl’s college and felt truly relieved after learning that the girl recovered.

Kong's heroic deed went viral on the internet, which has won high praise from HZAUers.

"Salute the heroes around us!"

"Having such a knowledgeable, humorous, and righteous teacher around may be the happiest thing during my college life."

However, Kong said, "I just did it by instinct. Even if I were not there, there would be other people doing the same thing. I just did what a teacher, a father, and an ordinary person should do.” He added, as a teacher, he should always care about students, treat them as his own kids, and teach them not only how to learn but also how to live.

It has been half a month since the incident, but Kong has still paid close attention to the girl's physical and psychological status. He gave the girl several books to inspire her, such as Light of Hope - The Story of Zhang Guimei, a Model of the Times and Talk to the World. On the flyleaf of the book, Kong Hao wrote the words, "General Secretary Xi Jinping said, 'Youth shines through hardening, and life is sublimated by struggle',” with the hope that the girl may find the meaning and direction of life through reading the books.
