On the morning of April 18, Ming Tingqing and Zhang Hongyu, heads of College of Informatics launched the 2021 Informatics Carnival, together with more than one hundred teachers and students. From April 18 to October 24, a series of activities of 2021 Carnival would be conducted successively involving all teachers and students of HZAU, which was an integration of science popularization, interaction, experience and competition. And the launch ceremony included various science popularization, interaction and experience activities.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the hostess Meng Yuan reviewed the main activities in the first Informatics Carnival last year. 2020 carnival consisted of two main parts. One was information science exhibition, such as “The Role of Information Technology in the Epidemic” and “The History of Information Technology Development”, which showed the development of information technology. The other was a variety of on-site experience activities, such as building electronic toy bricks, demonstrating children’s programming robots and operating the UAV, which enabled students to feel the charm of information technology at close range. Then, a video was played to introduce the main activities of this year’s carnival, including computer programming competition and computer installation competition.

A variety of interesting activities were also organized in this year’s launch ceremony: “Magical Morse Code”, in which you can have fun translating Morse code; “Just Dance”, in which you can dance with the game characters through motion-sensing technology; “Word Cloud”, in which you can post your own photos in the form of word clouds; and “3D Printing”, in which you can observe the printing process of the Yellow Crane Tower, etc. In addition, cakes, fruits and snacks with information characteristics were provided for teachers and students to enjoy in the food sharing area.

On the day of the kick-off ceremony (also the seventh anniversary of the establishment of College of Informatics), the emblem of College of Informatics was released. As Professor Zhang blew out the candles of the cake for celebration together with the student representatives, the ceremony reached its climax. “I didn't expect the kick-off ceremony to be so interesting!” Jia Lukai from Accounting class 2004 said, “I am very much looking forward to the following series of activities in this Informatics Carnival!”

The Informatics Carnival has been held by College of Informatics since 2020. During the carnival, a variety of activities will be conducted in succession for all teachers and students to take part in, aiming to create an atmosphere of information culture and improve the information literacy of teachers and students.
