On the evening of April 13, the opening ceremony of Auburn Week, held by HZAU and Auburn University (AU), kicked off online. The ceremony was attended by President Jay Gogue, Provost Bill Hargraves, Vice President Gretchen Van Valkenberg of Auburn University, and President Li Zhaohu, Vice President Qing Ping of HZAU as well as heads of relevant departments and colleges of both universities. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor William Batchelor, Dean of HZAU-Auburn College.
Firstly, Jay recognized the previous cooperation, and gave a sketch of AU, such as the history and academic achievements. Then, he showed his support for more colleges to be involved in future cooperation, and his will to expand cooperation to more areas. Apart from facilitating academic exchanges, both sides could share experience on agricultural technology generalization, social services etc.
Li reviewed the history and achievements of collaboration between HZAU and AU, and briefly introduced the status quo and the future design of disciplines in HZAU, looking forward to further cooperation with AU in food safety, engineering and other areas. The two sides also exchanged ideas in the establishment of a seed funding, joint training programs and so on.
Both universities agreed to build closer ties and play a strategic role in their respective development through substantive collaboration.
This year, the Auburn Week will be held from Apr.13 to Apr.15, and the main activities, which include the research symposium, studying abroad at Auburn (including international joint training program of CSC), and Auburn classes at HZAU (introduction and guideline for international lectures in HZAU-AU college), aiming to deepen HZAUers’ understanding of Auburn College in HZAU and to promote cooperation through exchanges.
