On the afternoon of March 24, Yao Jianglin, vice secretary of HZAU’s party committee and vice president of the university, together with other delegates visited the Department of Ecology and Environment of Hubei Province (DEEHP) and attended a symposium for cooperation and communication. The participants included Lv Wenyan, head of DEEHP, who chaired the symposium, Li Ruiqin, the department’s senior inspector, directors of other divisions and Hubei Provincial Academy of Eco-environmental Sciences, as well as representatives from HZAU’s College of Resources & Environment and Academy of Science & Technology Development.
Yao thanked the department for its efforts to promote HZAU’s development, especially in initiating and constructing key laboratories. Besides, the president expounded on HZAU’s eco-environmental disciplines pooling talents and emerging inter-disciplines integrating ecological protection and green development. He was expecting DEEHP’s aid in building key laboratories and planning scientific research. Furthermore, he was anticipating closer partnership in soil restoration, non-point source pollution, rural environmental protection, and carbon neutrality operation.
Centering on mutually developing the State Environmental Protection Key Laboratory for Soil Health Diagnosis and Green Remediation, Prof. Tan Wenfeng, dean of the College of Resources & Environment, reported the support acquired by major laboratories for integral platform, demonstration bases, project collaboration, and graduate programs. Cai Junxiong, dean of Hubei Provincial Academy of Eco-environmental Sciences, presented the two-year plan for a better laboratory by upgrading operation and management, completing reliable platform and bases, attaining concrete tasks and goals, as well as preserving farmlands and agricultural ecology.
Li stated DEEHP would back the key-laboratory construction based on some requirements of construction site and project approval. From Lv’s perspective, it is a typical partnership to establish major laboratories collectively in light of national strategies. With ecology and agriculture at its core, Hubei province must pursue quality development to sustain lucid water, azure sky, and unpolluted lands. Diverse needs and demanding tasks require the two partners to reduce carbon emission, overcome long-standing pollution, and improve rural environments. Technical problems should be solved via synergia, while scientific and technological strengths must be transformed into superior management and decision-making abilities. Only in this way can we achieve sustainable development without harming environmental.
