Yao stated that the symposium would be conducive to promoting quality development, collecting constructive advice, and thus implementing major national and provincial strategies by giving top priority to advanced research and innovation in line with the guidance of President Xi Jinping. Additionally, he introduced HZAU’s remarkable progresses in constructing its think tank and expressed sincere gratitude for HAST’s constant advice and assistance.
During the discussion, the delegates from various institutions shared their experience and suggestions of optimizing think tanks, such as Prof. Zhou Yikai, honorary dean of Huazhong University of Science and Technology’s School of Public Health, Ye Hanxiong, director of Political Research Office of Provincial Party Committee, and Xu Jiping, secretary general of Wuhan Association for Science and Technology.
Chen concluded the symposium with his expectation of motivating and training more scientific researchers to boost think-tank development. With regard to building a systematic think tank, he put forward three requirements: (1) fully realizing its paramount significance and creating new patterns with Chinese characteristics in accordance with President Xi’s directions; (2) precisely functioning in offering consultation for Hubei provincial government, balancing the ambitions of academies with the application of achievements, and harmonizing individual interest and socio-economic demands; (3) vigorously improving its quality to achieve scientific attainment and sustainable development via highlighting major strategies and conducting field investigations.
