On the morning of Dec. 6, the Forum on Aquatic Science and Technology was held online and offline between HZAU and Hokkaido University. Eight scholars from HZAU, Hokkaido University and Qingdao Agricultural University were invited to give keynote speeches on their research, and conducted academic exchange with over 160 faculty members and students on the latest achievements in fisheries.
Prof. Zhang Yong’an and Prof. Kimura Nobuo (きむら のぶお), deans of HZAU and Hokkaido University’s fisheries colleges respectively, introduced their own universities and presented a rough picture of their colleges’ development and research findings on aquatic sciences.
In the report session, Prof. Nie Pin, dean of Qingdao Agricultural University’s School of Marine Science and Engineering, shared his accomplishments in the IFNs’ function and signals of type I and II mandarin fish; Prof. Sakai Ryuichi (さかい りゅいち) and Prof. Yasushi Toki (トキ靖) gave keynote reports on their interdisciplinary advancement of medicinal R&D in fisheries and biological application of collagen in sturgeon-processing byproduct; Prof. Gao Jian of HZAU introduced his studies on freshwater fish’s synthesis of highly unsaturated fatty acid, by identifying the influence of lipid with different sources on HUFA concentration inside loach, and the roles of Elovl2 and Elovl5 as well as the function of fad2 in HUFA biosynthesis; Associate Prof. Cao Xiaojuan explored the loach’s mechanism of polyploid reproduction and respiration. Finally, Prof. Narita-ijiri (成田いじり) gave a report entitled “The Ovarian Developmental Mechanism of Tilapia and Eel”, offering an insight into his attainment. After these reports, other participants further discussed about these achievements.
On the forum, twelve graduate students of HZAU’s College of Fisheries gave commendable presentations on various aspects of aquatic sciences to attendees, including scholars from home and abroad as well as their teachers and classmates.
HZAU signed an agreement on exchange and cooperation with the Hokkaido University’s department of fisheries in 2017 and both sides have kept close contact since then. The forum can inspire faculty members and students through exchange of ideas on aquatic scientific and technological progresses and their application in fisheries.
