HZAU Delegation Visits the Spice and Beverage Research Institute in Hainan

From Nov.19 to Nov.21, Prof. Cheng Yunjiang, Dean of the College of Horticulture & Forestry Sciences, along with other personnel from Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU), went to the Spice and Beverage Research Institute, Academy of Tropical Agriculture Science in Hainan Province for in-depth cooperation, and was warmly received. Based on the topic of “Gardening for Healthcare”, both sides held academic discussions about further cooperation.

Firstly, Cheng gave a detailed introduction about the basic information of the College, such as history, research fields and academic achievements. Then, he elaborated on the prospects for promoting cooperation on jointly solving scientific problems, development of “Gardening for Healthcare”, joint training program for students and shared research platforms and resource. Hao Chaoyun, deputy director of the Institute, introduced the trinity development model of “scientific research, product development and popular science” of the Institute, as well as the achievements in tropical plant resources protection and utilization, technological innovation of tropical spice and beverage, and the integration of agriculture and tourism in tropical area. Tang Bing, director of the Institute, expressed full support on furthering cooperation in horticulture with HZAU and urged for a practical plan coming into being as soon as possible. In this way, both sides can give full play to their advantages, and build a demonstration base of tropical horticulture for health care together throughout the whole process.

After the discussion, there were 10 researchers, including Ma Zhaocheng from HZAU and Hu Lisong from the Institute, exchanging theirs thoughts in the following fields: landscape gardening for healthcare, sensory evaluation of horticultural products, conservation and utilization of gardening plant resources, ecological high-efficient cultivation and so on, which threw some new light on the future development of gardening for healthcare as a discipline.

During the period in Hainan, Cheng and the delegation visited Xinglong tropical botanical garden demonstration base, national germplasm resources nursery of spice and beverage crops, and Wanlvjiayuan base of Nanping Farm Company respectively, and held a discussion with the company leaders on the base construction of gardening for health.
