On October 31, the award ceremony of the 8th Peikang Chang Development Economics Excellence Achievement Prize and the 3rd Peikang Chang Development Economics Young Scholars Prize was held in Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Song Hongyuan, the director of the rural revitalization institute and professor from the College of Economics & Management of HZAU, has received the award for his book entitled “The History of Rural Changes in China Since Modern Times”.
As the first book by scholars from China’s mainland, Song’s book gives a full account of China's rural development and institutional changes from 1840 to 2012. The book systematically reviews the historical facts and processes of China's rural development since the modern times, thus outlining a panorama of rural changes in modern China. In the light of this, this excellent book, embracing high historical and theoretical value, impresses the readers with profound research on economic mechanism behind historic facts of modern rural changes and penetrating interpretation of the logic on China’s rural development since modern times at an institutional level.
It’s reported that Prof. Luo Biliang, adjunct professor from College of Economics & Management of HAZU and a 1984 graduate of HZAU, meanwhile, has been presented with an award for his paper entitled “Rethinking and Extension of the Coarse Theorem: Reform and Choice of Land Circulation Institutions in Rural China”.
Initiated by Peikang Chang Research Foundation of Development Economics established in October, 1972, Peikang Chang Development Economics Excellence Achievement Prize is aimed at commending those scholars who has made huge contributions to the development of economics and relevant research on this discipline. Also, the winners are required to fill research gaps on development economics and score great achievements in their fields which takes the lead in China or reaches world-class. The prize has been appraised 8 times with the award ceremony held every two years. At present, it has evolved into a major academic award featuring good academic influence and social reputation in this field nationwide. Previously, Justin Yifu Lin, Li Yining and other well-known economists have been awarded such a distinguished prize.
