On the morning of Oct. 31, the East Sports Ground was clean and tidy in the midst of rain. Instead of banner, the signature wall with theme of “power of life” was quite eye-catching.
At 8 a.m. sharp, university authorities including Gao Chi and Liao Jizhong stepped onto the open grandstand to attend the opening ceremony.

The lion dance performance, a long-held tradition, kicked off the 59th track and field games. Lions danced to the grand music and then displayed a couplet which says “Learn and practice, achieve and help achieve”, reflecting the pursuit of HZAUers.

At the march-in ceremony, the formation of each college revealed its feature and sportsmanship. The faculty and students of the College of Plant Science and Technology with wheat ears in their hands showed up first, followed by those of the College of Animal Science and Technology and Veterinary Medicine who waved pig-shaped balloons. The College of Resources and Environment displayed a car model made out of environment-friendly materials, while the formation of the College of Science held up signs of chemical elements and mathematical formulas. As for the College of Life Science and Technology, teachers held the green rice leaf as a symbol that went through thick and thin with students, followed by students with golden rice ears, which served as an embodiment of growth. In front of the College of Engineering, a small remote-controlled agricultural machine moved slowly, displaying its devotion to China’s mechanized and smart agriculture. At the end, the College of Food Science and Technology showed with newly revised copies of “Food Safety Law” in their left hands and homemade yogurt and food in their right hands, demonstrating their responsibility to ensure food safety.
This year's sports meeting was held under the backdrop of the regular epidemic prevention and control, with "power of life" as the theme, highlighting the significance of sports to increase physical fitness for all as well as the sportsmanship to promote the anti-epidemic spirit. The games was held from October 31 to November 1, attracting 1524 athletes in a total of 30 track and field sports. Except for the traditional radio gymnastics competition, 23 interactive and fun sport events are also held in the basketball court of the East Sports Ground, with more emphasis on participation.
