Prof. Li Xiaoyun from the College of Economics & Management in HZAU, has won a grant of 800,000 yuan ($114,000) from Ministry of Education (MOE) for her project “A Study on Major Issues of Food Security and Water Resources Security in China under the New Situation” .On Sept.28, the annual directory of philosophy and social science research key projects were released by MOE and a total of 51 projects got approval, with Prof Li Xiaoyun’s project being one of them. In 2014 and 2015, Prof. Zhang Anlu and Prof. Zhang Junbiao from HZAU won the same fund respectively.
On the basis of field investigation and statistic data, Prof. Li has used varied research methods including the mathematical economic model, structural analysis, spatial measurement and expert consultation to conduct a systematic study on economic issues related to the food security and agricultural production.
This project aims to explore the influence path and mechanism between water resources and food production and consumption in water-food system from different perspectives, establishing a comprehensive model of water resources, food production, policy adjustment regulation and national economic development.
The research will investigate the theory of food security and the change of water resources constraint, the relationship between water resources and food production, the response of climate change and food production, the synergy effect of international and domestic food trade and water resources, and the policy effect.
After evaluating the impact of water resource utilization and policy changes on food production, consumption, trade and household income,this project will propose a specific food security adaptation strategy ,which may be of strategic significance to policy-making on food security in China and other developing countries.
