On the afternoon of October 13, the sum-up meeting of the 15th graduate student volunteer teaching group of HZAU and the kick-off meeting of the 16th group were held in the activity room of the Benyu Volunteer Service Team. Vice president Qing Ping and other leaders attended the meeting.

Since 2005, HZAU has recruited excellent volunteers from graduate students every year, and it has been the 16th year since Xu Benyu, the first batch member of HZAU volunteers, went to a primary school in the mountain area to carry out volunteer teaching program. In 2019, the 15th volunteer groups went to Huanong Dashi Hope Primary School, Benyu Hope Primary School, Goudiaoyan Weimin Primary School in Bijie city, Guizhou province and Mofeng Primary School in Jianshi County, Enshi Prefecture, Hubei Province to complete the one-year volunteer service. In 2020, the 16th volunteer group will take over the baton and continue to fulfill the volunteer service with their efforts and wisdom.

Wang Qinglu, the leader of the 15th group, reviewed the volunteer work in Huanong Dashi Hope Primary School and shared his ideas from four aspects including imparting knowledge and educating people, poverty reduction, ideological and political education and anti-epidemic service.

Feng Dexi, the leader of the volunteer teaching team for Benyu Hope Primary School, made a report about their various educational activities under the theme of patriotism education and traditional culture inheritance. They established the first badminton team and the “Voice of Green Bamboo” radio station to promote the all-round development of students.

Fan Yikai’s team, realized the 100% junior high school entrance rate for Weimin Primary School through their rigorous teaching. “We insist in visiting the 68 left-behind children every month, and have a comprehensive knowledge of 89 children in poor condition”. Later, the team won the honor of National Colorful Holiday Demonstration Team.

Xu Peilin, the leader of the team for Mofeng Primary School, said, “each of us has limited capacity, but our continuous efforts are strong enough to transform a school, and even a region. Let’s pass this love to more and more people.”

Min Jing shared her experience in the teaching service in Huanong Dashi Hope Primary School. As the only English teacher of the school, she did a great job in online teaching during the epidemic period. At the same time, she launched the activity of “Hand in Hand, Heart to Heart, Fight Against the Epidemic” with the Youth Volunteer Association of the University to provide 6-month online teaching for the children of 213 anti-epidemic personnel in Hubei.

Later, Wang Rongrong made a speech on behalf of the new volunteer group. She told her own teaching stories and expressed her hope to develop suitable volunteer service projects for the school and give guidance to those dream-pursuing children.

Vice president Qing Ping summarized the work of the 15th group with the words--- “teaching a series of courses, educating a group of people, constructing a number of buildings, raising a sum of money, and carrying forward the spirit of volunteerism”. Qing Ping pointed out that one year’s volunteer teaching is to send the warmth of people and glory of education and civilization to poverty-stricken areas. This work is very important and remarkable. He then shared three ideas with the volunteers:

One is to express thanks to the volunteers who impart knowledge and hope to children and families in the mountainous areas.

The second is to promote the volunteerism. The volunteers of the Graduate Student Volunteer Teaching Group are the advanced representatives fulfilling the President Xi Jinping's expectations of rural revitalization and poverty alleviation, and also the models to guide young students to learn courage and dedication.

The third is to express expectations. Students who have returned to school should study hard and master the latest knowledge in related fields. As for those who are in the volunteer teaching work should fulfill their duties and pay more attention to the all-round development of the children. Last, he urged postgraduate students to study hard and the students who are in the teaching frontline not only to do a proper job, but also make a good adjustment and take good care of their body. He hoped they can become better men after volunteer teaching.
